MacArthur Elem./Inter. School Library
Teacher’s Guide
Welcome back to the start of a wonderful school year. I invite you to visit the MacArthur Library any time. I look forward to collaborating with you and taking an active role in curriculum support and implementation. Below is some information on using the library.
Hours:
Monday through Friday 7:35 – 3:35
Check Out:
Teachers may check out as many items as needed for as long as needed with the exception of videos which are one week checkout. You will receive periodic printouts listing the materials checked out in your name. There are no overdue fines, but you will be held responsible for any unreturned materials checked out in your name per EPISD district policy.
Overdue Notices:
Overdue notices will be sent regularly to students through their homeroom class (which is 3rd period in the middle school). The extra effort it requires of you to distribute the notices is greatly appreciated. It also explains why some students are not permitted to check out books from the library.
Flexible Scheduling:
MacArthur Library uses flexible scheduling for classes. You may reserve a date and time for your classes by coming by the library and signing up. Please be sure to check the MacArthur calendar beforehand to make sure no other teacher has already reserved that date and time. Please include a brief description of your objective so that we can be prepared to help you. Elementary classes will visit the library every other week and middle school Language Arts teachers will bring their students every three weeks) to promote literacy and give students the opportunity to visit the library. Teachers, please be aware that according to EPISD district policy “teachers are to remain with their classes while in the library”.
Unscheduled Visits:
Ideally, we would like to be able to provide access to information for our students at all times, however, this is not always possible. Please understand that if I am in the middle of a lesson or story time, I may send students back to class if I cannot help them at that time. It may be advantageous to check the Library master calendar before sending students to the library for an impromptu research or checkout. All students must have a signed pass from their teacher with an explanation of what the teacher expects the students to do in the library.
Communication:
You can email me at [email protected], leave a note in my mailbox, or come by the library if you would like to checkout materials, recommend any materials for consideration to have in the library, collaborate on a lesson, etc.
